EFax.com Rises on Xoom.com Agreement to Carry Its Service

Menlo Park, California, March 15 (Bloomberg) -- EFax.com Inc. shares soared as much as 75 percent as the maker technology that converts faxes to electronic mail said Xoom.com Inc. agreed to provide its fax-to-e-mail service to its more than 6.5 million members for free.

EFax.com rose 7 3/8 to 20 1/8 in early afternoon trading of about 19.6 million shares, more than 37 times its three month average. Earlier EFax.com, the third-most active in U.S. markets, touched 22 3/8.

Xoom.com Inc., an Internet-based direct-marketing company, was the 11th most visited site on the World Wide Web in January, Menlo Park, California-based eFax.com said, citing Media Matrix, an Internet marketing research company.

EFax.com and San Francisco-based Xoom.com said they expect their agreement will produce new services for Xoom.com members in the second quarter. EFax.com, which changed its name from JetFax Inc. last month, had 1998 sales of $30.2 million.

Xoom.com rose 1 1/16 to 68 1/16 in early afternoon trading.
