Indeed. At least, with David and Goliath, one knew what the scrap was about and what the costs and benefits were. In this instance one doesn't know if it's: (1)A crusade --- an attempt to teach someone a moral lesson irrespective of cost to the teacher(s). The lesson is presumed to be sufficient recompense. The name of the leader(s) of the crusade, presumably, go(es) into the history books. The others walk around with halos and smiles on their faces
(2)An action in criminal law --- where known legislation has been violated and they are going to attempt a "citizen's arrest". I presume something like the present anti-trust action the US Attorney General is bringing against Microsoft. Only, in this instance, it will be a private action funded by private sources. I presume the rewards to those involved are similar to (1). The costs are "open ended".
(3)A civil action where actual losses are being attributed to illegal or willful actions of someone who is now being sued to make good these losses. Of course, here it is necessary to show (a) how much one has lost and (b) why one couldn't take any action to prevent that loss. In other words, there has to be a deliberate attempt to deceive and defraud a particular investor --- which has to be proved in court . This means, for example, while a certain person was being induced to buy by the offending party he, meanwhile, was dumping on the unwitting buyer. A client of an investment manager would be such a case.
So, dear Brother, until you know just which of the above it is, I suggest you practice wearing a smile and a halo! Also walking barefoot and being nice to animals, just like our beloved St Francis of Assissi.
Aurum vobiscum
