The state attorneys are at it again. I bet they cannot reach a consensus on what remedies should be sought if they win. Too many vested interests----ex. New York State = IBM. You get the picture. Believe it or not the DOJ (and possibily a few states)will remain the only "voice of reason"---after the next phase of the trial. Yea I know it sounds odd but that is what I feel. That is why we won't see a settlement. MSFT has no reason to settle with extremists anyways. They are better off in the courts where there is impartiality (relatively speaking). Waste 3 years in court for the final resolution and in the meantime go full steem ahead. The days of courtroom "theatrics" are almost over anyways. Maybe a settlement is possible by the actual decision but MSFT should not give in much at that stage. Maybe allow PC makers to delete IE if they want----and they seem to be allowing it to Dell anyways. The states will back down when it come down to the wire but not yet.IMO Maybe a state like South Carolina should not have dropped out of the case ---should have remained to talk some sense into the "radicals". Who knows, maybe a few state attorneys are doing that right now to counter New York (for example). I guess the new New York state attorney did not realize he was getting some pro-MSFT votes to defeat Vacco in the last election. I guess he will find out next time!!! BTW--IMHO, MSFT should not make any gestures for a settlement until after the rebuttal phase of the trial----They should be able to do a lot better hopefully. Can't be any worse. This would help their bargaining position.
