Is his identity so bound up in politics, despite the "innocent bystander" pose, that he can't stand the evident fact that the electoral prospects of the Republicans have not been markedly damaged by all of this? Or is it that he had, finally, invested so much in defending Clinton that the latest scandals have shaken his sense of himself? I don't know, but it feels like he is in bad shape, and should really get some help.
