Lawrence-

I challenged you a couple of days ago to cite where I had claimed, "personal prosperity is unlinked to personal freedom". You have not bothered to defend your version of what I have said. Could it be that your claim is twaddle- false twaddle at that?

I would not have placed you in the category of posters who freely misrepresent a person's position in order to attack that person or his ideas. I might have expected that you would be honest enough to admit it if you erred in such a way. Should I change my estimation??

Larry

P.S. Not that I particularly want to debate the matter, but I'll go on record as saying I suspect the relationship between prosperity and freedom is a complex one not readily given to definition in general terms.

P.P.S. A Chinese colleague made the following point to me yesterday. Any Chinese citizen in China today who seriously sought to investigate the abuses of the Chinese Communist Party risked a lengthy prison sentence. His family might find certain services normally extended by the state would become unavailable. Other than that, I'm sure China is a model of respect for human rights.
