What's up with their websites? I went to www.thegemstore.com and half of the images were missing, and when I clicked to enter the store it couldn't find the file... Their company web site is cluttered with clip art as well, along with some notification of a live broadcast on Feb 17. 1999 (over a month ago).. Needs to be up to date to give a good impression as well as hold some interest.. Goals are great, but I feel the first impression is key... Is it worth the investment? Do people want to click-through a 3d interpretation of a mall to do shopping? Comparing it to a mall is great- but the concept is already out there with the thousands of online stores.. Once you say 3D and mall, and interactive: to me it sounds slow & cumbersome. Most people still use modems to connect to the internet at 28.8k - 56k bps. Lots of graphics on a mall shopping site might cause people to avoid it. I for one choose to shop online in reduced graphics fashion. Why? It's faster, less traffic, better response and throughput. Sights with intense graphics would make it just as painful as going to the mall yourself and waiting on the line... Right in one of the articles I read that they are already increasing bandwidth, might be a sign of exactly what I'm thinking.. I'm not badmouthing the stock, I'm interested in it as well, but I guess this is the kind of reality I would think about before I invested. I'm the kind of person that clicks on the "<< BACK" browser button when 2 megs of graphics are being loaded on any commerce sight. If anyone has any information about what I'm asking, please respond.
