Hi Mike.

Actually, I think the latest theory on whether it will be gold or copper etc depends of the type of magma-which is not just a function of temperature. Here's something from a recent paper presented by Dr. Sillitoe-World Expert on Porphyry Deposits.

The type of magma and the mineralization they produce is directly related to the "cooking" process and pressures/temperatures achieved. Sillitoe is discussing supergene enrichment zones in this excerpt he discusses extensively the significance of heat/temperature in other articles.

Obviously gold/copper porphries have different magma composition than straight copper however, heat varies the molecular structure of the magma which changes the mineralization as "does pressure variances form diamonds".
