Visual Telephone International's Subsidary Communications Research Introduces the First Software Based Video Codec for ISDN
SOUTH HACKENSACK, N.J., March 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Communications Research, Inc., a subsidiary of Visual Telephone International, Inc. (OTC Bulletin Board: VTPI) will introduce the first ever showing of a totally software based, H.320 Standards compliant codec, with graphics capability, at TeleCon East in Washington DC, March 17-19, 1999. The product being shown is the result of a recent agreement and partnership with Vista Communications Instruments, Inc., Helsinki, Finland, the developer of the system software. The product enables standard PC's to be upgraded into a very low cost desktop video conference work station with the software, ISDN BRI communication card and camera provided. A bundle will also be available, for the first time, to use any notebook computer with two PCMIA card slots, one for camera interface and a one slot for a unique PCMIA ISDN card, provided in the notebook kit package, for connection to the Public Switched ISDN Network. The kits will be sold under the Communications Research, Inc. trademark, the Quick Video Communicator series of products.

This product provides the lowest cost solution to PC based video conferencing in the market today. The line of ISDN cards provide connectivity to the current base of standards compliant, video conference systems connected to the public switched network around the world. After further refinement, the product will be marketed through computer distributors and stores around the country. The standard system configurations will sell for below $500.00 and includes the software on a CD-ROM, ISDN card, instructions, one hour of technical support and three hours of connect time on American Internet for testing high speed internet access if a user's ISP only supports up to 56bps. The internet capability is bundled in the package to allow greater use of the ISDN line, needed for video conferencing, as more of a communications resource.

At the TeleCon Show, Visual Telephone International will be demonstrating their standard Visual-100, Visual 1000A and Visual-2000 series of video conference products with the recently introduced and released Visual-EZII operating system. This second generation operating system provides the most robust, T.120 compliant white boarding, high resolution graphics and computing collaboration system available today. The product supports graphics and collaboration in point to point or multi-point using a video bridge with T.120 support.
