Scumbria, Nothing in that YUK Register article makes any sense (no surprise). According to The Register, "McGhan was reacting to claims revealed here that Sun's UltraSparc III is late." Why should Merced have anything to do with the lateness of UltraSparc III, unless McGhan was only trying to say, "Well we're not as late as some other projects are"? Plus McGhan is quoted as saying, "We're projecting that it will ship with an initial frequency of 600MHz. If it were shipping right now, it would be the fasted thing out there." Either he's way off base, or The Register inaccurately quoted him (once again no surprise). I can't reveal any numbers, but I can say that Merced will be faster than 600 MHz at its debut.
