Well ... you probably follow the same pattern as some acquaintances of mine - that is, they care mostly about fiscal matters when it comes to government and will tolerate a little of the social preaching from the right. The dividing line seems to be this abortion issue. The women I know will not vote for an agressively anti-choice candidate... this means any pro-life republican that dwells on the topic. So, anybody from Quayle's side, probably Elizabeth Dole too - we won't vote for these people under any circumstances. In fact, we feel so strongly about this we will vote for the alternative in protest. Only GW Bush seems to be able to convince us that he will leave the abortion matter alone - despite his personal beliefs (whatever they are - thats the good part about him, we don't need to know). Otoh the men will generally vote for a pro-lifer if the rest of the message is ok , especially if his wife doesn't work. SO imo the gender gap will be really profound this time around if anybody but Bush is the republican candidate.... (hes the only guy that knows how to keep his mouth shut and stay away from that divisive PBA issue). If Bush is elected and makes a big deal out of PBAs, I predict he will lose a second term.

One interesting tidbit is that I was on an African Safari a few years ago with someone who worked with a group called "Republicans for Choice" from Connecticut (I think?). Anyway she predicted the party would fall apart over this abortion issue and thats what happened.
