I am reading more and more about the Year 2000 debacle and there are threads devoted to this subject. I, myself, have even published the headlines of "Imformation Week" where it was stated the US Gov't was going to spend over a billion dollars in this area.
Yr2000 companies are very prolific and there is a need to either stay away from them or to jump on a stock that looks stable. Some stocks have been extremely volatile, like VIAS, ZITL, ACLY, CRYSF, etal. and another stock that is of a controversial nature. While I am by no means an expert in this field (my area of competence is the semi sector), I did some research on a list of possible candidates such as Computer Associates, Alydaar, DDIM, and a few others. I have my own personal recommendation for a YR2000 play but it should be known that I already have a position in this stock, based on my strong belief and what I see as promising information released.
This is not to say, the other companies listed here are inferior or that companies not mentioned by name here are not viable either. It just means that I beleive the YR2000 issue will take a great deal of support from numerous companies and that no one company is going to dominant. Therefore, I have chosen a company that looks as if it is growing its work force to address the customer support issue, a company that had its CEO interviewed on a Local Washington DC radio station (which as a result of the broadcast, I believe a direct correlation between the broadcast and its price rise occurred), has released information relative to testing at Dupont, and will be releasing the transcript of the radio broadcast within the next few days (I believe on the internet).
My investment in ALYD, I beleive is a sound one but is not the only company I am invested in. I believe that ALYD still has the results of 4 more tests to release, will benefit in a broader based price rise after the release of the radio transcript much like it did when the live local broadcast occurred in Washiongton DC., and looks as if it may be real close to a NASDAQ listing which will open up a new set of investment opportunities.
Will ALYD dominant the field, heck NO! Does it look real promising from the timeliness perspective, YES it does. Has the set been staged for another run on the YR2000 stocks? YES, especially with the recent Information Week cover story. Is a NADAQ listing important? YES, it allows a whole new set of investors and market coverage from the brokerage houses and the institutions.
I am recommending ALYD for investment? NO! You need to evaluate whether or not you believe the YR2000 sector is a place where you feel comfortable investing and whether you actually believe there is a need and a demand for these products. Once you decide on that, you need to decide on an investment strategy. My strategy is to invest in only those companies that will have broad market investorship and broad market coverage. These are the stocks trading with floats greater than 5 million shares, trade on major exchanges, report decent financials, contracts or beta testing, and look as if they are addressing their internal needs to meet the upcoming challenges. Using this criteria, ALYD would not be a viable pick but from what I explained before, I believe they will meet the necessary criteria in short order. To me it looks as they are doing everything required to meet this high standard I have just placed on a viable business entity. Therefore, ALYD should still be considered a risk but a risk that looks as if all the right things are being pursued. So in essence, I am betting a little too prematurely here and on another stock. But the potential benefits seems to justify the risk.
Therefore, decide if this is an area in which you want to invest and create your own list of viable candidates, and narrow the field down to the list you feel comfortable with, then compare them with the ones that are mentioned here, hyped somewhere else, or discussed elsewhere to determine your comfort level. Once you do that, make your investment decision. I have my own reasons for ALYD and it is interesting that another individual has become more of a cheerleader on this company than myself.
Regards and Good Luck in whatever course of action you may take. |
