Yawn. Both Oracle and Informix have been doing multi TB data warehouses for who knows how long. And it won't be long before Oracle and/or Informix publish multi-TB TPC-D's on Linux and some commodity intel-based hardware for a fraction of Microsoft's numbers.

The good news is that this Microsoft vs. everyone else competition is huge for software consumers. Microsoft will pressure database pricing, but others will not stand still. IBM, Informix, Netscape,Oracle, Novell and others will work very hard over the short term to legitimize Linux. They've already begun, taking equity in Redhat. This means server platform (hardware and systems software) price and TCO compression for superior technology - right back at Microsoft. This price compression plus the coming bandwidth explosion will stimulate demand which will benefit everyone.

Gotta love it!

FWIW, Microsoft is now my single biggest holding to which I'll be adding on any weakness. The temptations of the Dark Side are proving too strong.
