Well, I don't know Ish - I'll have to look into it.... that sounds like spin.

There is a very famous case out here involving a Berkeley student who was arrested in Ohio for credit card fraud with her boyfriend and another male friend. The friend was the instigator. I guess cc fraud is a low grade felony. Anyway she was in jail awaiting trial and found out she was pregnant, and wrote the judge asking to see a doctor for an abortion or to have her court date moved up. Unfortunately it was a right wing pro-life judge that didn't act and when her case came up finally she had only a week to get a *legal* abortion in Ohio (this is why I am disputing Neocon's post - the papers say she would have had no such issues in Ca.). Anyway the 2 guys got off easily but when she came up for sentencing the judge threw the book at her and mostly dwelled openly in court about what she would do with the fetus if she was to walk like everyone expected. She had to go back to jail for some time and it was too late for an abortion - she now has a child. When asked about this case the judge has said openly that "she lost her right to choose when she committed credit card fraud" - technically true, but certainly unethical.

Her family is suing the state of Ohio and it looks like they have a solid case according to our media out here. So based on this event I can't see how Ca is oppressive with regard to abortion. I think its spin.
