Regarding mean-spiritedness, I quite agree. This thread has been a rude, intolerant thread for many years, mostly from hostile bears. There was a time when there were scarcely any posters brave enough to even admit that they weren't bears, and in my opinion it has long been one of the worst threads on SI.

This will no doubt surprise you, but the level of civility on this thread has been higher in the last 6 months than at any time I can recall. Though I haven't always read it because of the lack of content, I have intermittently read it for several years. Sadly though we seem to be giving back much of the progress we have made, and the thread seems to be getting much worse again, and may even be worse since we now have a lack of civility from both bears and bulls.

Recent attacks on Tad LaFountain and PAInvestor are uncalled for. At least Tad and PA have contributed new and interesting perspectives, and have provided reasons for their opinions. Sadly many are here simply to blow there own horn instead of being here for civil conversation and an opportunity to learn.

The supply and demand that characterizes the DRAM market is a delicate balance, and can shift suddenly and unexpectedly. Dramatic results from shrinks can boost output quickly. Shifts in the amount of memory per PC can shift demand, as can such factors as plant shutdowns or mergers. For those whose minds are already made up, and closed to the concept that circumstances change with time I ask "why are you here"?

As for myself, I can assure you that I am here to keep current on changes in the cycles, and especially to make money. Personally I have been long for most of the trip from 27 to 71, and short for most of the trip from 71 back to where we are, thanks in part to what I learn here. And that includes informed bulls such as PAInvestor, and informed bears such as Thomas Busillo and Tad LaFountain. So I would like to that those posters who make intelligent, reasoned arguments for taking the time to do so, and assure them that there are people out here who appreciate them.

Let's keep things civil, and maybe we can all learn.

Carl

PS - The list of thoughtful posters was not intended to be exhaustive, and I hope I got the names spelled correctly for those I did mention. <G>
