I saw the CNBC Power Lunch interview today with new CEO-to-be Richard Syron. I was impressed by his ready grasp of TMO's problems and his simple, direct explanations. He said the corporate structure has caused a two-fold problem which he will move to correct. One, it detracts from management focus on the business mission. Two, it makes it too difficult to understand the fundamental valuation.

The interviewer joked with him about the fact that he was brought into do the same for the AMEX and ended up quickly bringing it into a "surprising" merger with Nasdaq. He replied that it was one of the options he had in mind when he took the job. The interviewer chided him for not revealing that tidbit at the time. He replied it one only one of many options which needed to be explored. He grinned about how much the value of the exchange seats rose during his tenure.

If nothing else TMO received some positive publicity suggesting it is undervalued. The market seemed to like it rising from 14 to 14 7/8.
