djane: It finally struck me what the problem is with Iridium. The whole idea of Iridium in peoples' minds is that of a satellite phone system that sells useage for dollars and makes money for shareholders. But Iridium, the Iridium most people think of, is really the technological achievement of Motorola; the Iridium that we are depending on to enrich the shareholders is run by former Motorola people who KNOW how to build a satcom system, but have NO IDEA how to sell it. Ed Staiano is a true giant, but what Iridium (the marketing, not technological, Iridium) needed, when the system was finally in place, was someone who could SELL. Someone from the McDonald's, Home Depot world, not someone from the lab. Motorola built a beauty. Iridium turned it into a toad when they began the marketing campaign and lost a ton of leads the first day the "800" number was activated... It's just horrible... It breaks my heart.
