Paul:

In our business we are busy upgrading pc's, (or in many cases instructing the customer to upgrade the pc), for y2k compliance of stand alone applications like access control systems.

Some of these systems have over an inch of dust on them and have been sitting in a closet somewhere busily running a simple, (but critical), dedicated application. The list of accounts I am aware of numbers in the hundreds. (Not all of them installed originally by us).

Some of them will call us, some will call our competitors, some will call for help when there are two hundred employees in the parking lot that can't get in the building after the 1st, but they will call, and all of them will replace these machines in the next nine months.

I estimate that for our customers in this situation maybe 5% of them addressed the issue in 1998, another 20% so far year to date with the remaining 75% yet to do anything. Most are aware of the issue but think it's a simple upgrade. (Which it is, unless they wait until they need to go to E-bay to bid for my technician's remaining available time).

Regards,

Greg
