This is from ESST's site on the 3208;

Figure 1 shows a block diagram of a typical standalone system with a VideoDriveT ES3208 and
ES801/ES802. The MPEG system bitstream from a video CD disk is passed to the VideoDriveT
processor through the TDM (Time Division Multiplexed) serial bus or 16-bit parallel host interface.
The ES3208 and ES801/ES802 parse the system layer and demultiplex the audio and video
channels. Audio is decoded and passed through the audio serial bus to an audio DAC and then to
the speakers. Video is decoded and output as YUV or RGB digital pixels to an NTSC or PAL
video DAC/encoder,
then to the screen. System control and housekeeping functions (keypad and
remote control) are also provided by the VideoDriveT processor and companion chip.

It looks like ESST's 3208 would require more support chips than CUBE's
new chip. More support chips = more cost. Can someone in the field verify this point for us?
