Poland's PTK Centertel Adds Capacity, Prepares for
Future Wireless Data Services
PARIS, March 17 /PRNewswire/ - Poland's second GSM 1800 operator, PTK Centertel, has awarded a US$20 million contract to Nortel Networks (NYSE: NT/TSE: NTL) to expand its network coverage and capacity, and to prepare for evolution to future wireless data services.
Nortel Networks will supply, install and commission additional radio base station equipment, including the Nortel Networks S8000 BTS, in Krakow, Katowice, Wroclaw and elsewhere in southern Poland.

''We have been very happy with the overall performance, capacity and reliability of their equipment. We are now looking to them to assist us with the buildout of our network, and to take us through a smooth evolution to wireless data services for our subscribers.''
This latest award, combined with an original equipment and services agreement from September 1997, brings PTK Centertel's three-year investment in Nortel Networks wireless infrastructure equipment to US$53 million.
