>Johannes, On the one hand you have strong anti-abortion belief's and on the other hand strong anti-homosexual belief's.<
Well this does not exactly characterize my beliefs. Abortion and homosexuality both represent philosophical contradictions to human identity, you see. And so should be discouraged, in the case of homosexuality at least not encouraged by public support.
As the abortionist in most cases commits pure and direct barbarism against society, he should receive punishment corresponding to the deed, his judges, as with any criminal case, keeping in mind any mitigating factors that would bear on his legal circumstances.
The homosexual who aims by no means to force his abomination upon society arguably represents no direct threat to anyone but himself. We might classify such homosexuals in a group with alcoholics who determine to drink themselves into a stupor only while in the confines of their own homes. The behaviour should not be supported, but as long as it by no means is forced upon society, there is no need to punish it.
>Could you answer this question for me? If you knew that a fetus was homosexual, would you allow abortion in any trimester?<
Well now you should see my answer to this question. Of course there is no way to know whether a fetus is homosexual, but were I to know this about a fetus I would yet not support its termination. It may well be that the person will grow to have no homosexual urges at all, or perhaps he will have such urges but seek to control them. He may seek treatment for his unfortunate condition or may simply keep his homosexuality to himself.
But let us for argument's sake assume we can determine ahead of time whether the unborn child is a homosexual who will seek to inflict its homosexuality upon society. I would yet not seek its termination because punishments in our society by reason must occur not on the basis of physical appearances, but as a result of behaviour and threats to others. Indeed, even very many threats would not allow us to by reason justify a killing. |
