Reporters

Bad reporters attempt to create controversy that doesn't exist in order to show how powerful they are.

Good reporters get mixed messages or no good answer to their questions and then dig deeper.

The reporter who wrote this article has been covering Novell for a long time. She may have dug deeper and found some conflicts.

Novell's management structure is I believe still along product lines. Stone may be in a separate higher level management group devoted to strategic thinking. Obviously no product line manager wants his revenue to drop because that drops his power.

There have been previous attempts at Novell to "pull it all together" and finally the person given the task threw up her hands and left. You may recall she had to suffer the abuses of that fellow from Timpanogas. So these are entrenched fiefdoms at Novell. I tend to believe that Schmidt hasn't cleaned up this structure yet. I hate it when Novell politics spills into the press.

Somebody should pay attention to Christine's story at Novell. In fact if I were Slitz, this being the second time this has happened, I would make the call myself.
