So, you would join the left here with the notion of victimless crimes. I don't. I am sure that no sane and sober person ever figures to let their "private" drinking contribute to the cause of an automobile accident. Yet, I am sure you are aware of the high percentage of accidents in which alcohol is involved. I am equally confident that no sane and sober person intends to let their drinking contribute to promiscuity, violence, and crime that they abstain from while sober.

As with most crimes, a crime against your own soul generally has ramifications that present themselves for society to "deal with." There is no such thing as a victimless crime. Even if I were to agree that the perpetrator is self inflicting punishment (the clinton defense, he has already suffered enough); I don't agree that there are no detrimental effects on other members of society and the culture I am trying to raise my kids in.
