I admit that I am un-informed with respect to the Monroe Doctrine. By nature, I consider myself an isolationist. Although I am proud to be an American and would willingly fight and die for my country if necessary, I would also admit that I don't agree with many of my government's foreign policy agendas. I view countries such as China, Taiwan, Iraq, and Kuwait to be sovereign nations. When the US interferes with what I perceive to be the natural order of things, I believe it only creates more enemies for the US. We enjoy far too many luxuries here in the US. The level of comfort that most Americans enjoy is, in my opinion, unwarranted and undeserved. We could become a self-sufficient nation if necessary, however that would be at the expense of the advancement of technology, industry, and so-called "progress". I have my own beliefs about the way the world should work, and I dare say that I am probably alone in these beliefs. |
