Hi Robbie: This was a pretty positive report and I'm not concerned about channel stuffing, but I don't feel good about this ...

Our forecast for 1Q99 is $0.29

That's a pretty low estimate.

The last week in February and the first week in March were
seasonally normal and on plan.

First January and the beginning of February were softer than expected, but they would make it up in the 2nd half of February and
March. Now it appears that the rest of February and 1st week of March are only "seasonally normal" - doesn't look like CPQ made up any lost ground.

Compaq believes that the quarter will be back-end loaded and dependent on high-end sales that traditionally come late in the quarter and are slightly ahead of plan.

The rest of March would seem to be critical to CPQ making the numbers.

BTW, can you translate this? I would love to know what the "ownership policy" is.

Insider Selling? Compaq addressed concerns about insider
selling - following a positive analyst meeting but prior to the
lowered guidance by saying that senior management have a
ownership policy and that members of the team had both exercised
options and bought shares.
