Novell (NOVL) climbed 1 15/16 or 8.1 percent to
26 1/16 after Merrill Lynch analysts praised the
network software maker's new directory NDS v8
as having "significantly higher capacity" than
Novell's current NDS product. The new directory,
which is currently in beta testing, is considered by
many to be the most powerful of network
directories. It helps support millions of e-commerce
applications.

Merrill upgraded its rating on the network software
maker to "buy" from "accumulate" and raised its
12-18 month price target to $30, based on 40
times estimated fiscal 2000 earnings. See Story.
