Was just reading Western Digital's 10Q of this month, think it was 2-10 or so, and read the following statement:
"All of the company's hard drive products currently utilize Thin Film or Metal in Gap technology. The Company believes MR heads will eventually replace TFI and MiG..."
Didn't know WD doesn't have ANY MR in production. I know Seagate and IBM are all mr or will soon be all MR, and so with the months long time lag of R&D on MR, but the current availability of TFI KM, I've just found another reason to believe that WD has the greatest chance of being the big #2 licensee of KM. I remember someone's post long while back that Quantum was just getting started in KM, and their yields were abysmal, 15% or so useful drives, 85% junk! So they seem to be wholeheartedly committed to MR future soon as well, if they're putting up with these horrendous losses in MR.

WD guys have already presented a white paper on the performance of KM at November's MMM show as Gus pointed out some posts back. My guess is they'll be the next licensee because it seems to me they've got the most to gain from pushing TFI ahead of MR for a little while longer. Anyone concur, disagree, have additional info?
