PALO ALTO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 17, 1999-- Hewlett-Packard Company, the worldwide workstation leader (1), today introduced the HP Kayak XU PC Workstation, with Intel's recently announced 500MHz and 550MHz Pentium® III Xeon processors. These systems deliver maximum power into the hands of software developers, design engineers, financial analysts and multimedia authoring professionals, among others.

The increased performance of the HP Kayak XU PC Workstation with Pentium III Xeon processors provides professionals with the ultimate advantage in OpenGL-based graphics, video, imaging and audio applications. The HP Kayak XU PC Workstations with 500MHz or 550MHz Pentium III Xeon processors feature 10,000 rpm wide Ultra SCSI hard-disk drives, dual-wide Ultra SCSI controllers for optimal use of integrated SCSI and PCI bus bandwidth, and HP FastRAID for hardware disk acceleration. The systems are tailored for a broad range of 2-D and entry-level OpenGL 3-D graphics functions, with a choice of the Matrox Millennium G200 AGP video card, the ELSA Gloria Synergy+ graphics card or the Evans & Sutherland AccelGALAXY graphics subsystem.

For customers interested in the industry's most innovative multiple-display technology, the HP Kayak XU PC Workstation also includes the Productiva G100-Quad graphics card from Matrox Graphics to support up to four monitors in a single-PCI-slot graphics board. This advanced, cost-effective visualization environment is ideally suited for professionals in financial trading, graphic arts, network administration and process-flow analysis.

All HP Kayak PC Workstations come equipped with a suite of manageability features; a software deployment and recovery tool; HP MaxiLife, an embedded hardware monitoring system; and HP TopTools 4.0, the award-winning and industry-leading desktop management interface (DMI) PC-management software.

Configurations, U.S. Pricing and Availability

The HP Kayak XU PC Workstation, featuring a 500MHz Pentium III Xeon processor, Matrox Millennium G200 AGP graphics, 128MB ECC SDRAM and a 9.1GB/10,000rpm hard-disk drive, is expected to be available immediately for an estimated U.S. street price of about $4,350(2). Models based on the 550MHz Pentium III processor are expected to be available in April.
