Charlie, which change of plan.... to split, to not split, to split.....
I sorta agree with Rene... a lot of times it's damned if you do, and damed if you don't.... based on the perceptions in the market at the time.
What I found intriguing was that during the CC, DW and CFO, sounded rather naive as to what they're shares outstanding, the value, the possible availability of shares, etc, etc, etc. Plus several analysts asked them very specifically about splitting, telling them the reasons why they should be considering it.... etc, etc, etc.
So, I'm guessing that perhaps if they were holding off because of Lycos, then they now feel they have a resolution. Another thought that crossed my mind is that if there are other MAJOR share holders of CMGI that could have counseled with them to influence a decision to go ahead and split.... possibly just to get the volatility down (have you looked at the cost of options for this baby!)
