No. I wasn't suggesting that they were better off, but that their experience was such that they believed that stocks were too risky and buy and hold didn't work. We now have the opposite belief by a far larger proportion of the population than ever before.

As far as proof goes, market timing goes in and out of favor, just like buy and hold. The last 16 have been buy and hold. I believe the next 10 will be market timing and I don't mean daytrading.
