Delphi expects to spend $106 mln on Y2K

DETROIT, March 17 (Reuters) - Automotive supplier Delphi Automotive Systems Corp. said it expects to spend about $106 million on Year 2000 compliance efforts.

Delphi spent $7 million in 1997, $40 million in 1998 and sees peak Y2K spending in late 1998 and early 1999, the company said in its annual 10(K) filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.

Troy, Mich.-based Delphi, the world's largest automotive supplier, is about 80-percent owned by General Motors Corp. (NYSE:GM - news).

In February, Delphi went public and sold about 18 percent of its shares. GM plans to distribute the remainder of its stake in Delphi to shareholders later this year.

Shares of Delphi closed off 1/16 at 18-1/16 on the New York Stock Exchange.
