Excellent post WT. A few questions/comments for you:

re:<<ADSL causing interference into T1s? I'm dubious, but this is not a simple or trivial question -- a lot of smart, experienced ILEC staff worked many man-years on the hypothesis over the last couple of years to become satisfied that it would not be a problem, before wide scale ADSL deployment>>

I believe this was one of the many test loop scenarios that was covered in the selection process for Amati's prototype. (also ref: "The effect of ADSL Spectrum on T1 Performance," Bellcore T1E1 document, T1E1.4/93-033 (3/93)).

<<The more interesting hypothesis is that the aggregate energy from ADSL services might impact HDSL services.>>

I thought this was not generally believed to be an issue since deployments of HDSL in the residential environment are presumed to be minimal? (of course, so are deployments of ADSL :o))

<<I have not seen paper analyses or experimental data suggesting that DMT causes less interference into T1 than CAP. >>

I guess a person could draw that conclusion based on Bellcore ADSL test results, where the AT&T Paradyne proto came in last by a pretty handy margin in the CSA test loops with 1-T1. I don't know the details of the test though (and this was not exactly a huge sample size), so this could be an inappropriate conclusion (but a marketeer could pull the data out of a table and use in "white papers.")
