Update: AXC web site now contains several white papers re: DCT. Also, I think they updated some of their corporate info.

Re: Western Digital. I agree with your observations about WDC, James. I think, though, that WDC currently has its plate full for this quarter and the next quarter with the rollout of its 3" disk drives and its lineup of enterprise drives as well as its SDX initiative. There is nothing to stop them from working on KM even without a contract signed. It is safe to assume that they have a NDA in place that allows them to do that. The computer makers sell 40% of their boxes during the fourth quarter so there is still a lot of time for the drive makers to integrate KM into their product cycles. Remember that AXC approached Maxtor and 2 other major drive makers who all indicated in general terms that it was possible to develop a keepered disk drive program during 1997. At least 2 other drive makers approached AXC as well.
By the way, some of you might be interested in watching how WDC is handling a "minor problem" with some of its since-discontinued 3-platter 1.6 GB disk drives. Check the WDC board and follow some of the links to get an idea of how the box makers are "loyal" to their disk drive suppliers. |
