The PowerVR Neon 250 Revealed
Posted by Alex "Sharky" Ross : March 16th

VideoLogic debriefed Sharky Extreme on their plans to release a PowerVR Series 2 based product called the Neon 250. The board will support AGP 2X, 32-bit color and ship with 16MB of SDRAM and 250MHz RAMDAC.

It's been a long time coming, but the wait is over- at least for Europe. VideoLogic emphasized that the long awaited PowerVR Series2 based Neon 250 will be a European based prduct only as VideoLogic does not harbor any plans to sell the board in the US. In addition, NEC told us that they have no OEM plans for this Series2 part and are still fully commited to the SEGA Dreamcast. They will however have an announcement later this year detailing plans for their next part, which at this point they are saying will be much more suitable for the US market.

Hmmm... is this an indication on how heated the US market is? Probably. I once heard that European spending habits focus on quality rather than price and in the US it's the opposite. Pricing pressure here is brutal. Any Europeans here that can backup that assertion? Just curious.

I used to get angry with VideoLogic for the whole entire Sega deal, but now with Dreamcast problems and Playstation 2 stealing their thunder, I kinda feel sad for them =).
