<<If we offer free detox treatments and follow ups perhaps we will see a change in the way things work. One has to admit the present system is flawed if we knowingly predict that we will require twice as many prisons twelve years from now to house drug related offenses>>

Agreed! What I suspect we will see first is mandates that private insurance cover such problems. Once that occurs, those who don't have insurance will probably be covered under Medical Assistance Programs paid for with tax dollars.

<<Compassion instead of sentencing may be what is required for addicts who are convicted of possession. That compassion can come from school aged children who figuratively adopt local areas addicts and raise monies to help them rehab or detox. The addicts in return can act as reverse role model mentors, and the kids will have an opportunity to see first hand where addiction leads. A sobering consequence. Tough love.... showing young kids what the real world is about.... but one that they probably won't easily forget.>>

Interesting concept! My daughter currently serves on a Peer Mediation Council in her school. Maybe this is the next step.

Have you forwarded your ideas for A.A.A. = Adopt An Addict to CITA yet?

BTW, do we have an E-mail address for CITA that can be published on this thread?
