will the deal hold the same premium value for athm if the potentially cooperating cable systems athm wants to organize balk at an xcit portal being at the center when there is aol/nscp, lcos, yhoo and go-seek out there drawing more eyes??
Excite has the most # of "eyes" that are available for sale, and the best technology for earning money off those eyes. While AOL et al may provide competition to @home in getting the ISP business for uncommited cable cos (which there are currently few of), @home will be even less competition without the assistance of excite. If the goal as TJ (CEO ATHM) says is to drive the monthly fees towards zero living off the advertising & e-commerce then @home needs excite *a lot*. Thats why they paid such an huge premium for it.
XCIT is currently running 15 point discount to its takeover price. Thats pretty hard to resist.
