I am REALLY, REALLY angry ... I checked out Y2Kbase.com to see status of Brother MFC 4450 I bought last year.

I guess I'll be like the majority of the people in the U.S. who CAN'T FIGURE OUT WHAT IN THE H*LL THEY'RE TALKING ABOUT ... when they tell us to download patches to make our systems Y2K compliant:-(
I can't be sure what works or doesn't work. What's in my system, what isn't. We often buy equipment for several basic functions ... and don't really care about some of the fancy, more advanced stuff. But, ends up to fix this ... you need to read the manual to actually figure out what all is in that machine you bought - regardless of whether you use it or not.
The multi-function Brother MFC 4450 that I got last year... needs a patch. I have NO idea what to do. Link it takes me to, itemizes some things that are standard and some which are options. I can't figure out what they're talking about. I don't feel like pulling out the manual, which I never read in the first place.

DISREGARD THE ABOVE ... I thought MFC4450 was a part of the 4400 series that could be updated with a patch (which I wouldn't know what to do with anyway.) Apparently, it isn't. It has its own section.

This isn't a life or death deal for me. But, I'm p*ssed!!!!! And angry that I have to waste my time and go thru a bunch of links to figure out what they vs others, mean by "Y2K compliant". And ... I'm supposed to keep on checking back to see if they've come up with a solution?? THIS IS BULLSH*T!!!
So, what's supposed to happen to this multi-function machine (that I bought last year) ... next year?? I have no idea. Brother didn't tell me. Is it going to stop working? Or will it be minor, like fax dates being registered incorrectly? (Then again, for some that is a major problem.) Who knows? Guess I'm supposed to keep on checking their website and maybe they'll eventually have a software patch ... that I won't know what to do with.
At least with the medical device research I did last year, if equipment was not Y2K compliant - equipment manufacturers would tell you specifically what would or would not happen. Of course, that was a life or death situation.
Now I understand why some companies are just going to fix-on-failure. It's not worth the hassle.
