Mike,
If not the SuperBowl, we will most likely be providing some type of programming to enhance the viewing experience at a similar venue next year. That assumption relies on several variables however, most importantly is that of management and their ability to execute the right deal. What we really need is a rabid dog selling this concept day in and day out. We need every potential customer to see our product, hold the control in their hand and manipulate the system, even if it is the demo tape. A lot of people have criticized Bill for his Big Bird analogy, but having seen the wares for myself I know exactly what he is talking about. You see, its not Big Bird, it's the whole opportunity to engage children in a real, more complete learning experience. Where Henson's vision engaged the thoughts processes in children, Samuel's will allow them to execute with the click of a remote, and reward them for the correct response. That's powerful.
Consider last Friday's boxing bout. According to Kagan Associates, 1.2 Million people paid $49.95 to watch, had ACTV been available, they would have recorded an excellent return on their programming effort and we would all be loving it, and that's only one venue. From what I understand they would have put around $20 mil in the bank, give or take a few. Imagine a technology so powerful, that over 60 million people can control their own unique viewing experience. Yes, I'll pay a basic fee of $9.95 a month for that, but if it's for my kids I'll pay a lot more.
