Limtex,

Pretec has their own manufacturing plant in Taiwan and assembles their own cards. I am a bit surprised that they beat SNDK to the punch in announcing their CF+ entry. Currently I am unaware of any devices using the CF+ slot, thus the Microdrive and this second CF form factor will have to wait before they both enter the battlefield and get bloodied. I believe Eli stated that SNDK envisions a 1 gigabyte CF+ card. That would be a show stopper. Let's hope there are some announcements at CeBIT regarding this.

The issues surrounding the CF+ standard will be...

cost
power consumption
ruggedness
write times

I think that applications will determine which media will survive, or whether they will coexist.

The biggest drawback I see is that neither fits into a PCMCIA type II slot. Perhaps there will be a PCMCIA type III adapter so that laptop users won't be left out.
