He's emulating SUNW's, "If you've got a pet, bring him/her to work." policy. SUNW has some kind of policy where a dog gets 3 strikes (pooping in the office?) then he/she has to go back home. It's good for pet and employee morale. Also, deer stay clear of human scent so your dogs won't be that much help.
