Wow, I should have checked on Paradyne before recommending it as a stock.

They have a great DSL product called Hotwire that really is hot. Named to numerous "best DSL" product lists in 97 and 98. They were founded in 1969 and purchased in 1989 by AT&T and thus benefited from having access to Bell Labs (a huge advantage over the competition). It was spun off by Lucent (LU) in 8/96 and bought by the Texas Pacific Group which I believe is privately held (I can't find a ticker for them).

Partly through their previous affiliation with AT&T and Lucent, they are the DSL supplier used by Lucent when Lucent bids a project and they are on just about every ILEC and CLEC approved products lists for use.

Sorry about that, chief. Still one of the best DSL out there, plus they are the #1 supplier of CSU/DSU equipment in the US. If you can find a way to get a piece of this Texas Pacific Group, I would look into it closely.

For now, guess I'll have to cut my DSL list down to Alcatel. Another DSL company that just happens to sound a little like Paradyne that is worth looking at (that I'm sure is public) is PairGain.
