intel previews xeon p3 @ 800 mhz at CeBIT

See www.theregister.co.uk/semi.html for details. Appears that their aggressive speed ramp creates more urgency in achieving a timely rollout of direct RDRAM. Yesterdays anouncement by Samsung that 256Mbit RDRAM will complete development next month, about 6 months ahead of earlier projections, also may turbocharge the bus. Samsung projects a 24 billion dollar market for the 256 Mbit in 2002. Cowens Drew Peck has forecast that cost premiums associated with RDRAM will evaporate as 256 Mbit chips become dominant leading to the complete conversion of the market to RDRAM. Aggresive moves by Intel and Samsung will propel Rambus earnings once rollout occurs. Peck's EPS forecast is $4.00 in 2001. Don't know what his projection is for 2002 but with Sony , Intel, and Samsung accelerating things its probably above $10.00.
