Does DW seem to be acting like a brilliant tactician?

1. On the stock split issue he damaged his credibility and predictability, and introduced great short-term volatility
in CMGI stock price. This behavior freaks out Wall St and
long term investors. Payback can be a bitch.

2. Lycos - USA deal. Lots of smoke from DW: resigning from
Lycos board, hiring Morgan Stanley, speculating the CMGI might
buy Lycos,... then duh he reads the fine print on the merger
deal and stops his tantrum.

3. Briefing.com today suggests that the portal business is passe
and Lycos might do well to sell at the offered high end price -
remember it traded recently at $40 without the buyout premium.
