Population control mechanisms such as war, famine, and disease are inevitable facts of life and are part of the global ecosystem. I see you've read Malthus... Anyway, it seems to me you feel overconfident about the security you currently enjoy in the U.S. I mean your country is isolated geogaphically --by two oceans. The Pacific on the West and the Atlantic on the East... Yet, have you read the novel "The 12 monkeys"? I've seen the movie: the action happens in the XXIst century when human survivors have to live underground --literally-- because of some psycho who opened a few bacteriological bottles in the late 1990s! He did so in an international airport with the purpose to swiftly contaminate as many other cities as possible... Take care, Gustave.
