Millenium Hires Veteran Producer; Grammy Award Winner to Spearhead Digital Productions for Web and Games
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 18, 1999--Millenium Music & Media (M3), recently acquired by Generation Entertainment Corp. (OTC BB:GNEN), has hired Neil Kernon to be Senior VP of A&R and New Technologies.
Kernon brings impressive credentials and a long career in the industry to the table. In 1993, he won a Grammy for the mixing of Petra's "Unseen Power" LP. He has been nominated for a Grammy no less than five times.
Kernon began his career with the legendary Trident Studios in London which was home to such stars as David Bowie, Elton John and The Beatles. He developed into one of the top producer/engineers in the world working with the likes of Hall & Oates, Dokken, Queensryche and Peter Gabriel.
Seeing the digital handwriting on the wall in recent years, Kernon has immersed himself in the new media forms, including the technology needed to provide music on the Internet. He recently spent some time at Microsoft, getting acquainted with the new proprietary software, "DirectMusic" with an eye toward integrating that into the soundtracks slated for distribution by M3 in 1999.
The addition of Kernon to the M3 team is timely in that the company recently inked a contract to create music for online games being developed by VR-1 Inc. Three such games are slated for debut on America Online, during 1999.
M3 President David Chackler was obviously delighted to have Kernon coming aboard. "As we intended to focus strongly on both Internet and P.C. based games this year, Neil's presence here will fit perfectly into our future plans. He is not only a world renowned producer, but he is well versed in all the new technologies. This gives us a great advantage in the market place."
Video and computer games, sometimes called "edutainment", represents a huge market which is continuing to grow at a fast pace. Best estimates place the figure at $10 billion plus . Virtually all of these products need music enhancement to one degree or another. That is M3's special niche.
David Chackler, who already had a long list of credits in music for feature films and television, has been on the cutting edge of the burgeoning Internet music market. The deal with VR-1 has the potential of adding more than $22 million in new revenues for Generation Entertainment, and that is a conservative figure.
