I admire anyone of intellect. That doesn't mean I have to believe everything they say or believe in. Rand had well-developed opinions on this subject. For me, it's a matter of believability. I believe Rand was right about the vast majority of things. I just don't think she was right on this one.

As for God as Director/Producer...why should He care? I believe the "play" is as much for His own enjoyment as anything else. Call it an experiment....whatever. Just because you feel things have to have a predetermined outcome, or some desired result doesn't mean everyone/thing does. Sometimes I watch college basketball because I want to see the team I like win....but mostly I watch college basketball because I love the game and the outcome is irrelevant. Maybe you could call God the "Referee". He makes judgements, but doesn't care about the direction of the game.

If you have a thorough acquaintance with children, you'd see they have no "bad" feelings or motives about them. They are purely self-interested. As adults, we scold them for being "bad" when, in fact, they were merely looking out for what they perceived to be their own best interests (they didn't share, they hit a kid because he took their toy..etc.). That isn't bad. It's all natural behavior. Children merely lack the understanding that at some levels the interaction of rights means that their behavior can infringe upon anothers (the kid who took the toy should've asked, the kid who hit shouldn't have hit). Either way, the kids were behaving perfectly nicely. Evil/bad behavior is learned by observation.

I wasn't referring specifically to Zen. At any rate, it matters little. Your view of Buddhism is based on the "secularization"(for lack of a better term) that has occurred to it over the years. You could say the same about virtually all religions (which is why I mentioned the Judeo/Christian iconography issue). Doesn't make religion good/bad, just that current religions are hardly what they were supposed to be.
