You make a good point. It comes as no surprise to anyone here that I am not impressed with Daniels skills. I have firsthand knowledge that he often gets his picks from elsewhere (IMOT picked from the WR thread for example), and has others do his DD (often shoddily). The ONLY thing he has going for him is the fact that he is 15. He was always a novelty on other threads around here, we all sort of chuckled softly and noted with amusement his fledgling efforts. If he was 27, no one would pay him any mind. It is only his years that make him noteworthy, and to me that is no big deal, and CERTAINLY not a positive thing.
Now however, with all the attention he has become a potentially destructive force. I have seen some pretty sad posts here about the less experienced losing money. One kid lost some or all of his tuition money... I think that is very sad.
For all those newbies and not too savvy players here, take note. You would be MUCH better served to listen in on some of the better threads where you can actually learn something, watch some CNBC, read all you can, and play bigger better stocks. You may not be able to buy 1000 shares of AOL or XYZ, but if you get a 20% gain on a stock, it doesn t matter how much you paid for it. Buying 5000 shares of a dollar stock that is worthless with only the promise of a rumor is INFINITELY dumber than buying 100 shares of a $50 stock with earnings and real news.
At around $50 there are lots of solid companies, jeez play it safe and buy some DIS for crying out loud. If it goes down, you are at least holding something that has intrinsic value. EGRP is another play that I have made lots of money on. It recently dipped to 39 and that was scary, but it is a great stock with real value and has bounced all the way back to 58! Hell CDNW was only 17 a few days ago... 3 quick points (almost 20%) pretty safely is not a bad play. It was safe because there was NEWS of the merger.
These little crappy companies with no history are very speculative. Most will flounder and wither. Some will explode and make a lot of money. As someone with little or no experience, are you willing to listen to a 15 year old kid because he has picked something in the past? The ONLY reason his picks have moved is because of the volume that floods in when he picks something. Someone always gets left holding the bag, and it is usually the less experienced trader. Look at all his picks. Where are they now that the flocks have left?
Well enough rambling for now. |
