Actually, both FedEx and RPS (Roadway Package Service) tend to concentrate on the business sector leaving more of the household deliveries to UPS and USPS. The acquisition of RPS gave FDX the ground network it needed to better compete with UPS. With its technology, FDX is focusing on becoming an integral part of the overall supply chain versus making the final delivery to the customer. Thus, you are beginning to see a subtle shift - from being considered a transportation company to an information (technology) company. This is what has led some people to consider FDX as a backdoor internet play. I like the way this is playing itself out.
