Dear Wondering in Westport,

You bring up a serious problem that has infested itself in many investing threads. The style vs. substance problem you refer to is known in the internet financial world as ankle biting, and which currently has no known cure. The best one can hope for, is for the ankle biter to be placed in isolation for a period of time. This is referred to by many as jail. The symptom was first witnessed when excellent information was tossed aside and ridiculed, simply because she did not like the person's delivery. This was a fatal investing error.

most RMIL'ers seem to have flat out rejected the information Mike has shown simply because he's Mike.

Speaking only for myself, it isn't rejected just because it comes from him, period. It is rejected because it comes from his bias.

The village concept has shown some potentially positive results. We as a community must help those in need and give them the confidence to become contributors to a thread. The next time someone bites your ankle, post back to her, I love you. She may require more drastic measures, but give it a week and then let us know the results. We can always increase the dosage. Good luck.

Dear Tonto,

Say you're following a certain thread... could be AZNT, could be CSCO, doesn't matter... and someone starts posting off-topic messages and complaining about "style" rather than "substance". When asked to post something -- anything -- about the stock listed in the thread header, said person gets offended and posts even more
off-topic messages. Thus, important things like fundamentals get shoved aside to the ultimate detriment of those investors who truly wish to make an informed decision based on facts and not opinions. So, my question is, how do you deal with such a person? Thanks!
