Cascade received a 1st place technology reward at Comnet in Wash DC. for it's development of IP Navigator. IP Navigator is an IP switching feature build into the cascade switch and allows the network backbone to do the job of the high-end(cisco)router. It's a $10k upgrade and competes with the hi-end router market. Hi-end routers can be priced as high as $80,000. If you were a telco, would you rather pay a $10,000 software upgrade on your existing frame-relay network, or buy an $80,000 hi-end router that bottlenecks internet traffic, needs to be maintained, and will be obsolete in a year because the internet is 5 times bigger? Hmmm... I wonder if those analysts that are not recommending Cascade actually hope your listening so the price will go down even more, and they can skoop it up cheaper?
