Foreign Policy and Bashing

Foreign policy of the United States is formulated by the President and conducted by the state department. Bashing is the responsibility of Congress and the Press. American foreign economic policy wrt Japan was long based on giving Japan carte blanche to penetrate and dominate American markets. This is still the policy. Doubtful that any country would have allowed another to selectively target and destroy major markets as the US has allowed Japan. The current policy with China allows it to discriminate, steal intellectual property, and develop a huge bilateral trade surplus. Every recent administration has favored Japan and China at the expense of domestic producers. It is this policy that has created the bashing policy on the part of the Republicans, press, labor, etc. All that is necessary to demonstrate this is to check out the numbers (i.e. trade balances for China-US and Japan-US).
